Belgium had a turbulent electronic music scene during the 1990s, with a free, extravagant club scene and rocksolid music production. Unfortunately, this changed with repressive government actions against allegedly high drug consumption in nightclubs, Belgium's emerging electronic music festivals as competitors and increasingly difficult, obtainable party licences. Clubs are disappearing as fast as they were established, but something new is bubbling underground. As was the case earlier in Britain, France and the Netherlands, Belgian collectives are holding parties in forests, squats, fields, industrial estates and abandoned office buildings. These illegal raves or free parties are organised by soundsystem crews consisting of DJs, sound engineers, artists and music lovers. On the basis of interviews with five organisers and two partygoers, this study attempts to gain an insight into how these parties come about and what significance they acquire in the development of participants' individual and collective identities.

In dit onderzoek werden door middel van tien diepte-interviews de ervaringen nagegaan van leerkrachten met etnische diversiteit. De focus ligt hierbij enerzijds op de houding van leerkrachten tegenover etnische diversiteit, en anderzijds welke praktijken leerkrachten hiervoor hanteren in de klas. Het onderzoek vond plaats in drie scholen met elk een uiteenlopende graad van etnische diversiteit binnen de leerlingenpopulatie.

Effect van de epidurale anesthesie op borstvoeding na een vaginale bevalling

Introductie:
Het doel van deze bachelor proef is om na te gaan welk effect de epidurale anesthesie heeft
op de start van de borstvoeding na een vaginale bevalling. Het praktijkdeel richt zich op wat
de ervaringen zijn van zorgverleners die dagdagelijks met de materniteit in aanraking komen.
Methode:
Om dit literatuuronderzoek uit te voeren werd beroep gedaan op Pubmed en EhBIB Search.
De artikels werden op basis van abstractie en “levels van evidence” gekozen. Voor het
praktijkdeel werden er zes interviews afgenomen bij zorgverleners.
Resultaten:
Door de epidurale anesthesie te gebruiken als interventie op de baringspijn, zien we dat dit
een effect heeft op het opstarten van de borstvoeding. Eveneens gaat de epidurale anesthesie
ook de Fergussonreflex negatief beïnvloeden. De epidurale anesthesie in combinatie met
synthetische oxytocine gaat ook het gedrag van de pasgeborene beïnvloeden.
Discussie/besluit:
Om het effect van de epidurale anesthesie beter te begrijpen zouden er meer studies moeten
plaatsvinden. Ook is het niet altijd duidelijk of de gevolgen plaatsvinden omwille van de
epidurale anesthesie of door de synthetische oxytocine, die tegelijkertijd aanwezig is.
Sommige artikels spreken elkaar tegen of geven tegenstrijdige informatie.
Er wordt evenwel geconstateerd dat de epidurale anesthesie een effect zou hebben op de
start van de borstvoeding.

The question of what constitutes truth today is in debate. In particular, young people seem to have difficulties in verifying the information they encounter online. The digitization means an increasing prevalence of fake news on digital media platforms. This becomes a problem because research has shown that young people mainly consume news that they find online. Fake news raises questions concerning the extent to what young adults trust news online. With this in mind, this master’s thesis focuses on: ’What role do fake news production and dissemination have on trust in news on digital media platforms among Flemish young adults?’

In the literature review, the context is given in which fake news could occur. Understanding this media phenomenon has become more important because denoting everything as fake news can cause potential implications such as damage to the reputation of people, obscuring public debate, or influencing political decisions.

For this master’s thesis, an online quantitative survey was conducted. The attitude of 279 respondents aged between 18-34 in Flanders was measured by a multiple regression analysis. The results show that age and social media contacts play a significant role in the trust of young adults in online news.

Furthermore, the study finds significant correlations between social media features and trust in online news as well as between trust and the extent they interact with online news.

Dit aan de hand van (academische) literatuur en diepte-interviews met twaalf experten binnen de (Vlaamse) filmindustrie, waaronder Jan Verheyen, Bilall Fallah, Erwin Provoost, Peter Bouckaert, Hilde Van Mieghem, Luk Wyns en Ward Verrijcken.

Recovering metals from effluents is imperative to decrease the environmental impact and afford potential supply sources. However, microbial treatments can do more than only retrieving metals from solution, but also mediate the production of valuable products for the nanotechnology market. That is really an achievement! Here, research was conducted to promote metal recovery as metallic nanoparticles (NPs) with potential valorization in a green chemistry approach.

In deze bachelorproef probeer ik interesse op te wekken bij KMO's over circulaire economie. Dit door een aantrekkelijke tool aan te bieden met beknopte duidelijke informatie en gerichte stappen om aan de slag te gaan. Ik toon hen wat de mogelijkheden zijn en hoe zij dit zelf kunnen doen door de methodische aanpak van circulaire economie.

Application of AMORAS Filter Cakes in Infrastructures 1          IntroductionAMORAS is a sustainable and innovative plant, located in the port of Antwerp and exploited by 'SeReAnt'. Flemish authorities and the Antwerp Port authority are investing in sustainable solutions for the storage and processing of maintenance sludge from the docks. Up to now, the filter cakes with a capacity of 500.000 tons dry matter per year are being deemed as waste material. The ambition of this project is to reuse and revalue the filter cakes as a renewable raw material.

Many uses can be imagined,  such as health monitoring, interactive clothing or fashion.The goal of this thesis is to investigate how a battery-pack can be integrated into textile.

Although literary theory and literary criticism seem to suggest otherwise, poetry uses a big variation of media besides the paper book. One of these media is the sound carrier. This thesis explores the production and reception of Dutch poetry on sound carriers and uses the case study De zon en de wereld by Arjen Duinker to present a multidisciplinary methodological framework for analysing poetry on sound carriers. When discussing recorded poetry, literary critics pay most attention to non-literary elements and use no fixed values or standards.

Onderzoek naar de invloed op de pragmatieke taalproductie van patiënten„Diepe hersen-wadde?” is de reactie die ik van de meeste geïnteresseerden te horen kreeg wanneer ze me vroegen waarover ik mijn thesis schreef. Toegegeven, diepe hersenstimulatie van de nucleus subthalamicus (of STN-stimulatie) is geen kant-en-klare taal. Het is vrij specifiek vakjargon en wordt nagenoeg enkel gebruikt in de medische wereld, maar wat het is, wordt later duidelijk.

Het ontbreken van specifieke regels kan echter dramatische gevolgen hebben, zoals reeds gebleken is uit Belgische ervaringen.
