Motivatie-onderzoek van de Vlaamse e-fietser omtrent het gebruik of de aankoop van de elektrische fiets

Er is tot op heden weinig onderzoek verricht naar de vraag, het aanbod en de operationele problemen in Westerse landen. Er is eveneens nog weinig wetenschappelijk onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de motieven van Vlaamse e-fietsers. In deze masterproef wordt de focus gelegd op de vraagzijde, meer specifiek de redenen waarom Vlaamse e-fietsers een elektrische fiets gebruiken of gekocht hebben. In de literatuurstudie worden bronnen in Europese en niet- Europese landen aangehaald.

Er werd via drie focusgroepen met 27 Vlaamse e-fietsers achterhaald wat de motieven waren en er werd onderzocht of deze motieven al dan niet overeenstemden met de motieven uit de literatuur. Bovendien werd nagegaan of de stellingen uit de literatuurstudie aangaande de motivaties al dan niet overeenkwamen met de meningen uit de focusgroepen.

In relatieve volgorde kwamen als belangrijkste motivaties voor de aankoop en het gebruik van de e-fiets naar voren: gezondheidsmotieven, praktische motieven, veiligheidsmotieven, psychologische motieven, fysische motieven, omgevings-motieven, ecologische motieven, life style motieven, financiële motieven, sociale motieven en technische of technologische motieven.

De volgorde van de belangrijkheid van de motivaties is verschillend naargelang de gebruiksdoelstelling woon-werk of recreatieve doeleinden.

Heel wat technische, veiligheid, praktische en psychologische en omgevings-belemmeringen werden opgesomd. Deze negatieve ervaringen van huidige e-fietsers kunnen door de overheid en de e-fietssector omgebogen worden naar positieve motivatie-elementen om nog meer mensen aan te zetten tot e-fietsen.

Er kwamen eveneens andere aspecten in de focusgesprekken naar voren die niet behandeld werden in de literatuurstudie: onder andere een vierde gebruiks-doelstelling (vakantiedoeleinden), financiële motivaties voor woon-werkverkeer en verzekerings -en psychologische aspecten.
