Waanzinnige betekenisconstructie

In deze thesis werk ik een hypothese uit over psychoses. Dit doe ik vanuit de opvatting dat psychoses vaak op een foute manier worden geconceptualiseerd. Eerst worden definities behandeld uit DSM-V, Handboek Psychose en een fenomenologische definitie van Wouter Kusters. Hierna komen auteurs uit de fenomenologische psychiatrie, Blankenburg, Binswanger, Conrad en Fuchs, aan bod die aan betekenisconstructie een belangrijke rol toekennen. In een verdere stap formuleer ik kritiek op de fenomenologen vanuit de opvatting dat het psychotisch proces gereïficeerd wordt, door een te nauwe focus op een verstoorde perceptie. Hierdoor komt de focus te liggen op een abstract proces van betekenisconstructie, waarbij betekenis als relatie tussen een organisme en diens omgeving wordt veronachtzaamd.

                Om tegemoet te komen aan deze kritiek bespreek ik Husserls fenomenologie van ‘habitualiteit’ en ‘habitus’. Dit concept is voor Husserl een sleutelprincipe waarmee hij zijn genetische analyse van transcendentale structuren koppelt aan een concreet levend en handelend persoon, in een intersubjectieve, culturele en historische wereld. Aan de hand van Husserls principe van ‘habitualiteit’ kan nagedacht worden over overbruggingsprincipes ten aanzien van betekenisconstructie. Er kan gesproken worden over een ego als ‘lege ik-pool’, een over een ‘vol’ ego, dat cultureel en historisch gesitueerd is in een intersubjectieve wereld.

In een volgende stap bouw ik op naar een eigen hypothese. Eerst herbekijk ik de waanstemming. Verder haal ik inzichten aan die iets zeggen over de ontwikkeling van het bewustzijn in relatie tot de omgeving. Ik koppel de waanstemming, vanuit de opvatting van Brabban en Turkington, aan het concept van cognitieve dissonantie. Hierbij stel ik voor de waanstemming op te vatten als de eerste scheuren in een ‘habitueel’ gesedimenteerde betekenisstructuur. Hierna vul ik dit aan met inzichten van Deikman, die iets bijbrengt met betrekking tot de relatie van anatomie en evolutionaire genese.

Hierop volgt een terugkoppeling naar eerdere elementen. Ik stel een psychotisch proces voor als een dialectisch proces van aha-erlebnissen en anti-aha-erlebnissen, waarbij een onderliggende existentiële oriëntatie, cognitief en affectief, wordt gedeconstrueerd. Hierbij verwijs ik naar inzichten uit de neurowetenschappen, die cognitieve dissonantie linken aan een verhoogde activiteit in het striatum. Dan beschrijf ik inzichten van de Amerikaanse filosofe Maiese, die vanuit de Scaffolded Mind hypothese ideeën uitwerkt die relevant zijn ten aanzien van psychoses. Ik sluit af met te verwijzen naar onderzoeken die de uitgewerkte opvatting kunnen ondersteunen.
