De huidige zorgdomoticaEen inventarisatie van de huidige domoticatoepassingen voor de hulpbehoevende oudere

De vergrijzing is een fenomeen dat tegenwoordig vaak aan bod komt. Verschillende beroepsgebieden proberen hierop in te spelen. Zo trachten zorgverleners, zoals een ergotherapeut, samen te werken met experten uit de IT-sector. Door deze samenwerking kan men de zogenaamde 'zorgdomotica'  voor de thuiswonende ouderen optimaliseren. Zorgdomotica is technologisch hulpmiddel dat in evolutie is en meer en meer zal geïntegreerd worden in smart homes, oftewel slimme huizen.  Zorgdomotica is de integratie van technologie en diensten en bevat de elektronische communicatie tussen toepassingen in de woning. De kwaliteit van leven van de bewoner zal hierdoor stijgen en het zorgt tevens voor een verbeterde verzorging van de inwonenden. Domoticasystemen kunnen ingedeeld worden in de toepassingen: telemedicine, leefstijlmonitoring, domotica voor veiligheid, domotica voor omgevingsbesturing en domotica voor geheugenondersteuning. Maar zoals reeds vermeld worden de toepassingen vaak geïntegreerd in één systeem of één smart home. 

Via een praktisch onderzoek, d.m.v. focusgroepen zijn de de onderzoekers te weten gekomen wat de huidige problemen zijn van de thuiswonende ouderen. Uit literatuuronderzoek was er reeds geweten dat de ADL-activiteiten (algemeen dagelijkse levensverichtingen) steeds meer en meer beperkt worden en er problemen optreden. In focusgroep kwamen enkele specifieke problemen naar voren zoals: problemen met keukentoestellen, technologie, verdwalen, vallen,... Door een inventarisatie te maken van de huidige domoticatoepassingen voor ouderen kan men zien wat er tegenwoordig voorhanden is aan technologische hulpmiddelen of waar men reeds onderzoek naar het doen zijn. Op deze manier konden de onderzoekers verschillende problemen koppelen aan een domoticasysteem. De veiligheid van de bewoner kan bijvoorbeeld vergroot worden door een systeem dat elektrische apparaten of keukentoestelen automatisch uitschakelt wanneer de bewoner de ruimte verlaat. Er kan uit onderzoek wel geconcludeerd worden dat domoticasystemen nog verder dienen aangepast te worden aan de noden en behoeften van ouderen omdat deze ook steeds veranderen.
